he Experiment...

We conducted a little experiment with one of our Grandmas in October 2017. We gave her three of our best-selling protein cookies in her favourite Lemony flavours to try and give us her verdict.

For those of you wondering why on earth we chose to give protein cookies to a Grandma, here is why…

Due to the medication this particular Grandma is on, she struggles with normal-sized meals and often opts for easily digested, soft foods such as fruits and pudding, so her diet is seriously lacking in protein, fibre and carbohydrates. As a result, like most elderly people in a similar situation, she suffers from increasing fatigue and muscle wastage (also contributing to symptoms of fatigue/tiredness).

We gave her the following cookies to try:

  • Lenny & Larrys Complete Cookie - Lemon Poppy Seed
  • ProSupps MyCookie - Lemon Pound Cake
  • Battle Oats Cookie - Lemon Drizzle

Grandma enjoyed all three cookies and said the Lenny & Larry's was a nice buttery flavour, like a lemon muffin. ProSupps was nice and citrusy and not too dry. But, the Battle Oats was the winner with Grandma who said the cookie was easy to digest and didn’t give her indigestion like the others. She said she thought this might be down to the cookie being gluten free (and potentially because pea protein is meant to be easier for our bodies to break down). She said there was a nice lemon flavour but it wasn’t too over-powering, and the cookie went down nicely with her cup of tea.

Protein is an important requirement for so many people, young and old. The elderly and individuals on a vegan diet are often in most need of a good protein supplement in order to avoid deterioration and wastage of muscle along with other dis-advantaging symptoms associated with protein deficiency.

Battle Oats were re-launched in September 2014 after an admittedly rocky start. Still, we give them our biggest compliments for picking themselves back up and starting again in order to create the protein bars and cookies they believed in.

Battle Oats said…

“Why didn’t we give up? Good question; and one we never really asked ourselves. We were so confident in the name of the bar, the brand we wanted to create and where we wanted to position Battle Oats in the market that we just knew the obstacle was the way. Once we overcame that obstacle Battle Oats started to flourish.”

Make sure you give them a try!
